Grade 1 winner in foal to Galileo headlines initial July Sale entries
Six yearling fillies by the champion sire will also come under the hammer
Buyers will be presented with a rare commodity at this year's Tattersalls July Sale, with the Group 1-winning mare Cloth Of Cloud due to be offered in foal to nine-time champion sire Galileo. The three-day sale begins on July 11.
The five-year-old daughter of Captain Al was crowned champion two-year-old filly in South Africa in 2016 having landed the Grade 1 SA Nursery by a commanding length.
Her high-class race record is backed up by a deep pedigree, as she is a half-sister to another Grade 1-winning filly in Silver Mountain and hails from the top US family of Santa Anita and Hollywood Oaks winner Hidden Light and the Breeders’ Cup Mile winner Artie Schiller.
Cloth Of Cloud had been part-owned by embattled South African business tycoon Markus Jooste, who is continuing to disperse his stock after a string of high-profile accountancy fraud allegations emerged late in 2017.
Other horses that were part-owned by Jooste have already been through the ring at Tattersalls in 2018, most notably Willie John, who topped the February Sale when selling to Roger Varian on behalf of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid for 1,900,000gns.
Cloth Of Cloud will be offered by The Castlebridge Consignment, whose draft also includes six yearling fillies by Galileo, including a half-sister to the Lowther Stakes winner Besharah and the second foals out of the Australian Group 1 winners Nechita and Sea Siren.
Commenting on the initial July Sale entries, Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony said: "The Tattersalls July Sale is well established as Europe's premier midsummer sale and this year's sale is shaping up to be an outstanding renewal.
"The star South African mare Cloth Of Cloud presents a very rare opportunity to buy a young Group 1 winner in foal to the extraordinary Galileo and the six Galileo yearling fillies will add an extra dimension to a sale that already annually attracts a global audience."
