Goffs will auction a maquette bronze of Her Majesty the Queen with a mare and foal as the final lot of the London Sale at Kensington Palace on Monday 13 June, the eve of Royal Ascot.

The auction will raise funds for the National Horseracing Museum (NHRM) in Newmarket, of which the Queen is patron, and the bronze has strong links to the town as it is a maquette of the statue which stands at the entrance to Newmarket's Rowley Mile.

It is one of a limited collection of 12 maquettes of the statue, which was sculpted by Etienne Millner and Charlie Langton and unveiled in 2016 by the Queen, who owns the maquette numbered one in the series and has it on display in Buckingham Palace.

This particular maquette bronze will take pride of place in the entrance hall to Epsom Racecourse throughout the Cazoo Derby and Oaks meeting, where artwork depicting Her Majesty throughout her reign will be on show and it will be available for inspection at Kensington Palace in the hours before it is auctioned.

“Goffs is honoured to have been asked to auction the bronze of Her Majesty the Queen with a mare and foal at this year’s London Sale," said the company's group chief executive Henry Beeby.

"Selling such a beautiful piece at Kensington Palace Gardens on the eve of Royal Ascot, particularly during the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee year, should generate great interest among our guests in attendance and we hope to raise plenty of funds for the National Horseracing Museum who do such excellent work in showcasing and preserving the legacy of our wonderful sport”.

The Hon. Frances Stanley, chairperson of the NHRM commented: The Goffs sale encapsulates all the promise and excitement of the forthcoming week of Royal Ascot. It is a unique event for the international racing industry who come together in the Royal grounds of Kensington Palace.

"To be able to offer this collectors maquette as the last lot of the Goffs sale in Her Majesty’s Platinum Jubilee year is a particularly fitting time for racing lovers to show their support for the National Horseracing Museum."

The full catalogue for the Goffs London Sale held in association with Privat 3 will be online this weekend.
