Glorious start to the Journey of Dubawi's sale-topping son
The colt fetched 2,600,000gns at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale
With a big price tag comes big expectation, and having cost connections a cool 2,600,000gns hopes will be about as high as they come for Glorious Journey. And having made a winning debut in the opening maiden at Newmarket on Saturday, the son of Dubawi did not disappoint.
The two-year-old colt was one of the joint sale-toppers at the 2016 renewal of the prestigious Book 1 of Tattersalls' October Yearling Sale, where he was offered by Norris Bloodstock and knocked down to former Godolphin chief executive John Ferguson.
Even a cursory glance at his pedigree gives an insight as to why he cost quite so much, as he was bred by Philippa Cooper's Normandie Stud out of Fallen For You, a daughter of Dansili who carried Cooper's famous pale pink and white silks to success in the 2012 Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.
Fallen For You, another bred by Normandie, is out of the Listed winner Fallen Star, whose other progeny include Heron Stakes winner Fallen Idol and Lancashire Oaks runner-up Fallen In Love, who in turn went on to produce Group 3 Prix de Flore winner Loving Things.
The likes of Lockinge Stakes winner Fly To The Stars and German 2,000 Guineas winner Peace At Last also appear under Glorious Journey's third dam, Rise And Fall.
Since producing the sale-topping Dubawi colt Cooper's mare has delivered a colt by Frankel, now a yearling, and this year foaled a brother to Glorious Journey, so Saturday's success may just be the start of Fallen For You's own glorious journey as a broodmare.
Glorious Journey's success was also the first leg of a three-timer at Newmarket for Dubawi, with Folk Tale landing the following maiden and Culturati overcoming a mammoth absense to win the 6f handicap at 3.05pm.
