There are a variety of ways in which a young stallion can stand out from the crowd, but in essence the most effective thing he can do is to achieve something his peers haven’t. That is precisely what Tweenhills’ Zoustar did in September when he became the first of this year’s first-season sires to supply an all important Group 1 winner.

Nine first-season sires have had a black-type success in Europe in 2022, and six of those can boast of a coveted Group victory, but when Lezoo battled on bravely to land a competitive renewal of the Cheveley Park Stakes she ensured her sire was the first to claim a top-level triumph.

The Ralph Beckett-trained filly has been a real flagbearer for Zoustar’s debut northern hemisphere crop as she has won four races from five starts, with her record also including wins in the Listed Empress Fillies’ Stakes and Group 3 Princess Margaret Stakes.
