Dam of California Chrome to visit Pioneerof The Nile
She was sold in foal to Tapit for $1,950,000 at Fasig-Tipton
The dam of California Chrome, Love The Chase, is set to be covered by Pioneerof The Nile, having been purchased by John McCormack Bloodstock at the Fasig-Tipton November Mixed Sale for $1,950,000 when in foal to leading sire Tapit.
Love The Chase had originally been bought at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Two-Year-Old Sale for $30,000 by agent Greg Gilchrist. She is a maiden winner out of a half-sister to Listed winner Amourette.
California Chrome, who was her first foal, had an impressive double when winning the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes in 2014. He also won this year’s Dubai World Cup and finished second to Arrogate in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
Love The Chase has three other progeny by Lucky Pulpit, with Hope’s Love and R Sunday Surprise also placed. She also has a yearling on the ground called Faversham.
She will go to Pioneerof The Nile in 2017, who is standing at WinStar Farm at a fee of $110,000.
He is responsible for Classic Empire, winner of this year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, Grade 1 scorer Midnight Storm and, most notably, Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, with the latter standing at Ashford Stud in Kentucky at a private fee.
