For reasons unknown, saying you’re fashionably late seems to let you get away with a multitude of sins.
Clearly there is no difference between being fashionably late and just good old fashioned late, but people seem to take the former entirely at face value. As if arriving behind schedule is some sort of stylistic choice, as opposed to mere tardiness.
Anyway, with that in mind, and rather than boring you with the myriad practical considerations that go into a sales correspondent’s travel schedule, I duly arrived in Deauville fashionably late.
