Book 1 to include New Approach half-brother to Gimcrack hero
Barton Stud to offer sibling to Shamardal colt Emaraaty Ana
Emaraaty Ana produced the goods in the Gimcrack Stakes at York on Friday not only to become the second son of Shamardal to win the race in three years after 2016 scorer Blue Point, but also to give his Book 1-bound half-brother a major pedigree update.
Barton Stud will offer the May-born New Approach colt, who was born in the same month as his year-older half-brother, as lot 131 on the first day of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale.
Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock, Emaraaty Ana is one of three winners from as many runners out of the Cape Cross mare Spirit Of Dubai, one of three stakes scorers - all of whom excelled at trips further than a mile - out of the winning Rainbow Quest mare Questina.
Spirit Of Dubai was covered by four-time Group 1-winning miler Ribchester earlier this year.
Shamardal, meanwhile, has shown his capability of getting a top-class juvenile in the past with the likes of Racing Post Trophy winner Casamento and Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Lumiere.
His runners also progress with age, as evidenced by this year's King's Stand Stakes scorer Blue Point, who made his Group 1 breakthrough at the age of four. Blue Point was also third to Alpha Delphini in the Nunthorpe Stakes on Friday.
The 16-year-old son of Giant's Causeway - who has notched up 20 elite winners - now covers limited books of Maktoum-only mares at Darley's Kildangan Stud in Ireland.
Looking to the future, the Kevin Ryan-trained Emaraaty Ana holds early entries in the Mill Reef, Middle Park and Dewhurst Stakes, as well as next year's Derby.
