Shaman Ghost - the third highest prize-money earner in North America in 2017 after Arrogate and Gun Runner - will stand his first season at Tommy Town Thoroughbreds in California this year.

The six-year-old son of Ghostzapper will be offered to breeders at a fee of $10,000 (£7,300/€8,200), while there will be special consideration for young stakes-winning mares, who may be covered at a reduced fee of $7,500.

Bred and raced by Frank Stronach's Adena Springs, Shaman Ghost is a son of the talented and consistent sprinter-miler Getback Time.

Trained by James Jerkens, the Canadian-bred Shaman Ghost landed a valuable conditions race at two and continued his rise through the ranks to win the Woodward Stakes at four and the Santa Anita Handicap at five.

The Stronach family owns two racetracks in California - Golden Gate Fields in San Francisco and Santa Anita Park in Arcadia.

"We as a family need to demonstrate California racing is very important for the state of California," said Stronach.

"It is necessary that there are enough quality horses in California - the racehorse industry is a very beneficial economically for the state of California.

"The horse industry currently is responsible for 50,000 jobs, directly and indirectly, and the Stronach family wants to work together with breeders, owners and trainers to increase these values. Together, we can improve horse racing and create thousands of additional jobs.

"Shaman Ghost is a multiple Grade 1 stakes winner who obviously liked Santa Anita having won the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap," continued Stronach.

"The Stronach family's commitment to California is to improve and preserve the beautiful racetracks. Without a large, quality horse population, the racetracks cannot exist.

"By sending Shaman Ghost to California, we want to demonstrate that, besides owning the racetracks, we also will do our share to breed and race in California."
