Qous, the first foal out of dual Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe heroine Treve, opened his account at Chantilly on Friday when landing the Prix du Mont Alta over 1m2½f by a short neck on his second outing.

The Andre Fabre-trained three-year-old was waited with at the rear of the five-runner field, but once brought to the outside by Vincent Cheminaud the colt stayed on well to claim the lead close home.

There was a small but select field in opposition to the blue-blooded Al Shaqab homebred, with the Gleneagles colt L'Aigle in second and Edge Of Victory, the Kingman colt out of French 1,000 Guineas winner Beauty Parlour, back in third.

Qous is by Dubawi and is one of four foals produced by the wondermare Treve. She also has a two-year-old filly by Shalaa, who has been given the auspicious name Paris and is also in training with Fabre, as well as a yearling filly by Siyouni, and she gave birth to a daughter of Sea The Stars in March this year.

Treve was among a host of star mares in Kingman's 2020 book.

She ran 13 times for trainer Criquette Head and compiled one of the finest race records of recent times, winning the Prix de Diane on just her third start before going on to add the Prix Vermeille and her first Arc.

She returned at four and retained her Arc crown with a stunning performance, seeing off Flintshire in second and Taghrooda in third. She gained further Group 1 laurels at five in the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud and Prix Vermeille, and brought the curtain down on her racing days when fourth behind Golden Horn in the 2015 Arc.

Bred by the Head family's Haras du Quesnay, the ten-year-old daughter of Motivator is out of the winning Anabaa mare Trevise, making her a half-sister to stakes performers Trois Rois and Trophee.

Her fourth dam is the champion racemare Trillion, who found further fame as the dam of the exceptional filly Triptych.
