Winners keep coming for Aga Khan Studs stallion Siyouni

It seems that a day rarely passes this summer when Siyouni isn’t represented by a winner.

On Wednesday, the Aga Khan Studs hotshot was represented by his tenth European two-year-old winner of the year when Paramount struck at La Teste De Buch and on Thursday that rich vein of form continued at Deauville as Sacred Life and Toijk combined to give him an afternoon double.

For Sacred Life, his clear cut win over Hurricane Light in the Prix des Chaumieres, a conditions race, marked a welcome return to winning ways following his fourth to Dice Roll in the Prix Djebel back in April.

The Stephane Wattel-trained colt was one of the highlights of Siyouni’s season in 2017, winning each of his three starts including the Prix Thomas Bryon.

Time will tell whether Toijk can scale those heights but he could do no more than make a winning debut in the 7f maiden to become yet another juvenile winner for his sire. Trained by Markus Nigge, Toijik scored by three-quarters of a length from Mon Ouragan, a first-crop son of Toronado with the benefit of experience.

Toijik runs as a homebred for Lutz Bongen, who bred the colt out of the Listed-placed Eire. He becomes the third winner out of the Medicean mare, also responsible for the Group 3-placed Happy Approach.

Siyouni is well represented at the upcoming Arqana August Sale with 25 entries. Highlights on paper include the half-brothers to Naaqoos (lot 44), National Defense (79), Ocovango (102) and Dabirsim (24), himself responsible for Thursday's easy Deauville three-year-old maiden winner Tropical Princess.

Siyouni’s current crop of 119 two-year-olds were bred the year his fee rose to €20,000. Responsible for 24 stakes winners in the northern hemisphere from his time at €7,000, the son of Pivotal stood for a career high this season of €75,000.
