The inaugural T21 auction, an event which is being held to raise funds for the Down Syndrome Centre, is now live.

The auction, which leads up to the T21 ball at the Alex Hotel in Dublin on December 10, will remain open until midnight that evening. A live auction will also be staged at the ball with a selection of exclusive lots.

Launched by John and Sophie Barrett, from the family of Philip
and Jane Myerscough of Colbinstown Stud, it is a cause close to their hearts as their third son Seve was born in October 2021 and diagnosed prenatally with Trisomy 21, the official name for Down Syndrome.

Along with event manager Kerry Ryan, formerly of the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association, the Barretts aim to raise a substantial amount of money for the Down Syndrome Centre.

In a statement, they said: "We wanted to direct our focus to the Down Syndrome Centre which is invaluable to families of children and children with Down Syndrome, providing services where it is so difficult to access them elsewhere, and a place for support, advice and friendship.

"The birth of Seve has opened up a whole new world for us and we wanted to do our small bit to help this wonderful charity."

The Down Syndrome Centre was first opened in October 2014 by Peter and Mary Gaw, who founded it after being unable to find the relevant services for their two youngest children.

The auction includes 30 lots donated by members within and outside the bloodstock industry. Among them are Six Nations tickets to the Ireland v France game along with a signed Ireland jersey.

Another lot is a pair of champion jockey William Buick’s breeches signed by riders in this year's Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe - including winning rider Luke Morris - and the opportunity to sponsor a race at Naas racecourse with lunch for four people.
