Vegas Showgirl, the dam of Winx, to visit Newgate Farm’s Extreme Choice
The daughter of Al Akbar is owned by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds
Vegas Showgirl, the dam of champion mare Winx, will be covered by Newgate Farm’s young gun Extreme Choice this year.
The leading first-crop sire of Golden Slipper winner Stay Inside, as well as of Tiger Of Malay and Xtremetime, Extreme Choice will be restricted to a book of shareholder mares and a select group of foal shares this year and Vegas Showgirl will be amongst them.
Newgate Farm’s Henry Field revealed the planned mating between the two in the Sydney Morning Herald. Vegas Showgirl, who is owned by John Camilleri’s Fairway Thoroughbreds, has a rising two-year-old filly by Deep Impact who is being retained by her breeder and a weanling filly by I Am Invincible.
She was covered last year by Coolmore’s Pride Of Dubai to provide a similar cross to Winx.
It was reported back in November that Vegas Showgirl's prolific daughter would be unlikely to be covered this season after losing an I Am Invincible filly foal.
A statement said at the time: "Our thoughts and attention at the moment are on Winx, ensuring that she remains healthy, as anyone in this situation would respect.
"It is a traumatic time for a mother and those involved and Winx is now the centre of our attention following the loss of a beautiful filly this morning."
The 25-time Group 1 winner amassed more than A$26 million (approx £14m/€16.3m) in prize-money and was retired from racing after winning her third Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick in April 2019.
