Irish breeders will next year have the opportunity to send their mares to Unfortunately, the champion two-year-old and Group 1-winning juvenile sprinter, with the son of Society Rock set to stand at Springfield House Stud in County Tipperary for the 2020 breeding season.

Linda and Reddy Coffey of Springfield House will stand Unfortunately in partnership with Cheveley Park Stud, where he took up stallion duties this year.

Cheveley Park Stud managing director Chris Richardson said: "As with all the Cheveley Park stallions, we'll be supporting him with our own broodmare band as well as at the sales.

"We've a long and successful relationship with the Fitzsimons/Coffey family who care for our bloodstock in Ireland and we look forward to standing Unfortunately in partnership with them.

"Cheveley Park's Newmarket-based stallions have always attracted strong support from Irish-based breeders and given our increased involvement in Irish racing it's an ideal opportunity for us to strengthen that connection.

"In addition, Unfortunately's sire Society Rock has had exceptional results from the mares he covered at Tally-Ho Stud and the pool of mares available to him in Ireland will provide him with increased opportunities to become a successful son of his sire."

Springfield House owner and manager Reddy Coffey added: "It's a great opportunity for Irish breeders to use a Group 1-winning son of Society Rock who was precocious and fast. He's a must-see individual, with a super walk and has developed great muscle tone."

The loss to the Irish stallion ranks of Society Rock, a dual Group 1-winning sprinter trained by James Fanshawe, has been keenly felt by breeders with his juvenile son A'Ali twice successful in Group 2 company this season.

The late son of Rock Of Gibraltar also sired US Grade 2 winner and Cheveley Park Stakes runner-up The Mackem Bullet as well as the smart performers Corinthia Knight and Shumookhi.

Unfortunately was bred by Tally-Ho, and is a half-brother to the Group 2-winning Danetime sprinter Look Busy.

During his racing career with Karl Burke, Unfortunately captured the Group 1 Prix Morny and Group 2 Prix Robert Papin at two – making him the champion two-year-old colt in France of 2017 – and the Group 3 Renaissance Stakes at Naas at three.

Oak Lodge and Springfield House Stud are responsible for producing multiple Group 1 and Classic winners such as Blue Point, Cockney Rebel and Marsha, together with numerous other black-type winners, including five Royal Ascot winners.

A fee for Unfortunately will be unveiled at a later date.
