Tritonic another promising jump recruit for Sea The Moon after Ascot success
The four-year-old was also second at Royal Ascot last year
Tritonic emerged as another potentially high-class recruit to the National Hunt ranks for Sea The Moon after pulling out all the stops in the juvenile hurdle at Ascot on Saturday.
Sea The Moon, a son of Sea The Stars who stands at Lanwades Stud in Newmarket, enjoyed his best Flat season to date last year with Alpine Star and is already responsible for Allmankind, a Grade 1-winning juvenile hurdler and novice chaser for Dan Skelton.
His four-year-old son Tritonic proved a classy runner on the Flat, notching up two wins and a second in Listed company behind subsequent Prix Royal-Oak scorer Subjectivist at Hamilton last July.
Tritonic also finished second to the useful Highland Chief in the Golden Gates Handicap at Royal Ascot last term and was picked up for 55,000gns by Highflyer Bloodstock at the Tattersalls Guineas Sale in 2019.
The gelding, who was making his debut over hurdles at Ascot, following which he received quotes of around 12-1 for the Triumph Hurdle, is the second foal out of the unraced Selkirk mare Selenography, a half-sister to three winners, and bred by Lanwades' Kirsten Rausing.
Allmankind is another of Sea The Moon's sons to have taken a shine to obstacles. Having struck once on the all-weather for Michael Bell, the Bill Gredley-owned gelding was a nine-length winner of the Grade 1 Juvenile Hurdle at Chepstow last season and also finished third in the Triumph at the Cheltenham Festival.
The exuberant jumper has landed both his chase starts this term with consummate ease, running out a two-and-a-half length victor of the Henry VIII Novices' Chase at Sandown last month.
Sea The Moon, who will stand for a fee of £22,500 this year, has also been represented by dual hurdle winner Must See The Doc and Moon King, last seen running out an impressive winner at Musselburgh for Charlie Longsdon.
