Three-time Breeders' Cup winner Beholder delivers Curlin filly
Mendelssohn's half-sister delivered her foal on Saturday afternoon
Four-time US champion and three-time Breeders' Cup winner Beholder delivered a bay filly by Curlin on Saturday afternoon at Spendthrift Farm in Lexington, Kentucky.
"Beholder had a very nice Curlin filly this afternoon, and we’re happy to report both mother and foal are doing really well," said Ned Toffey, general manager at Spendthrift.
"We couldn't be prouder of Beholder. She is such a professional and continues to perform beautifully in her second career as a broodmare. We've been very fortunate. The delivery was as normal and straightforward as you could ask for.
"Our entire broodmare crew, led by broodmare manager Aimee Compton, deserves a lot of credit for the management and care of Beholder since her arrival on the farm."
The filly was born at 4.25pm and "jumped right up" according to Toffey. She's the second foal for Beholder, who had an Uncle Mo colt - now named Q B One - last year.
Beholder retired from racing in 2016 after an illustrious career that saw her win 18 of 26 starts with earnings of $6,156,600. She earned Eclipse Awards as the outstanding two-year-old filly of 2012, three-year-old filly of 2013, and older filly and mare of 2015 and 2016.
Among her 11 Grade 1 victories were three Breeders' Cup triumphs, including the 2012 Juvenile Fillies and the Distaff in 2013 and 2016.
