Rubick has been installed as favourite to be leading first-season sire in Australia by number of winners in the 2018-19 season by CrownBet.

The Coolmore stallion certainly has the pedigree to excel as a sire of two-year-olds as he is by Encosta De Lago out of Sliding Cube, a Group 2-placed Rock Of Gibraltar half-sister to the great Redoute's Choice and Manhattan Rain (also by Encosta De Lago), source of Golden Slipper heroine She Will Reign.

Winner of the Group 3 Blue Diamond Prelude and fourth in the Blue Diamond itself, Rubick has a first crop of 158 and his debut yearlings made up to A$470,000 at auction.

Rubick is CrownBet's 3.00 market leader – 2-1 in British and Irish terms – which puts him just ahead of Newgate Farm resident Deep Field on 3.20, or 11-5.

Deep Field is a son of the late Northern Meteor, as is the 2017-18 Australian champion first-season sire Zoustar, and he was a Group 2-winning sprinter on the track.

He has more foals than Rubick – 190 in all – and his yearlings sold for up to A$675,000.

Deep Field is a brother to Caulfield Guineas winner and fellow freshman sire Shooting To Win, who has a first crop of 118.

Shooting To Win, whose first yearlings sold for as much as A$340,000, is rated at 9.00 or 8-1 in the market.

Darley's cross-hemipshere shuttler Brazen Beau, a son of the outstanding I Am Invincible, is a 5.00 or 4-1 shot to field the most winners.

Although he has a relatively small first crop of 86, his yearlings were in strong demand at the sales, fetching as much as A$700,000.

Dissident, a five-time Group 1 winner over 7f to 1m at three to four, is the only other sire available at single-figure odds – 7.50 or 13-2.

The Newgate Farm-based son of Sebring showed useful form at three, when a Listed Blue Diamond Preview winner on debut, and he has a first crop of 152.

Current and former shuttlers from Europe or the US priced up in the market include Toronado (17.00/16-1), Zebedee (17.00/16-1), Hallowed Crown (26.00/25-1), Olympic Glory (26.00/25-1), Sidestep (26.00/25-1), Charm Spirit (67.00/66-1) and Verrazano (81.00/80-1).
