There will be a significant reversal of roles at Tattersalls on Tuesday as the big-spending Phoenix Thoroughbreds will offer dual Group 2 winner Signora Cabello, one of the star lots of the headline session of the December Mares Sale.

"You can only keep buying if you sell some, and that's how we're operating," said Phoenix founder Amer Abdulaziz.

"The idea is to sell some of the horses we've acquired and if we're going to do that we need to start with the best that we have.

"It's not easy to let go but sometimes you have to - that's our whole model."

Relive Signora Cabello's Royal Ascot victory

Phoenix bought into the John Quinn-trained daughter of Camacho when securing a 75 per cent stake from owner Zen Racing before her first Group 2 win, which came in the Queen Mary at Royal Ascot. Zen Racing retained the remaining 25 per cent.

"The win at Royal Ascot put Phoenix Thoroughbreds on the map, that really helped to promote the fund," reflected Abdulaziz. "We're excited to see her go through the ring and very happy to have owned a filly like her."

Signora Cabello went on to prove herself one of the best juvenile fillies of the season by landing the Prix Robert Papin, before she went down by just three-quarters of a length in the Prix Morny won by Pretty Pollyanna.

"She's already won two Group 2 races since we bought her so she's increased her value. Selling her now is a way of showing our investors the kind of returns they can make from the thoroughbred industry," added Abdulaziz.

Phoenix Thoroughbreds has repeatedly grabbed the headlines for its punchy sales ring activity during its relatively short lifespan, including when securing a pair of Galileo fillies at €3.2 million and €2m during the Goffs Orby Sale in October.

With a growing portfolio of stallions to support, including the National Stud's Aclaim, Taylor Made's Daddy Long Legs and Aquis Farm's Invader, Abdulaziz added that Phoenix could also be among the buyers during the remaining three sessions of the December Mares Sale.
