Precieuse half-sister makes all to score in Chantilly newcomers' race

Porcelaine, a Kodiac half-sister to Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Precieuse, made a most encouraging start to her career when making all in a mile maiden for newcomers on the Chantilly polytrack on Saturday.

The Prix du Rond du Manege featured the debut of three half-siblings to Group 1 winners and two of them filled the first two places, with Princesse Ilia – a Charm Spirit half-sister to Gran Premio di Milano victor Sudan – finishing one and a quarter lengths behind Porcelaine in second.

La Vespiere, an Air Chief Marshal sister to Grand Prix de Paris winner Mont Ormel, was never dangerous but kept on into sixth.

Porcelaine, benefiting from an outstanding front-running ride by Stephane Pasquier, represents the same connections behind Precieuse's Classic victory – trainer Fabrice Chappet and owners and breeders Brendan and Anne-Marie Hayes of Knocktoran Stud in County Limerick.

Precieuse was subsequently sold to race for Peter Brant and Chad Brown in the US, where she added a victory in the Grade 3 Honey Fox Stakes at Gulfstream Park to her resumé.

The siblings are out of the Group 3-placed Pivotal mare Zut Alors, dam of five winners in total also including classy sprint handicapper Baccarat (by Dutch Art) and Group 3-placed Peut Etre (by Whipper).

Zut Alors – who has a Galileo yearling colt and was covered by Gleneagles last year – is a half-sister to Group winners Combat Zone, Royal Empire and Scottish as well as stakes-placed fillies Bikini Babe and Sante.

She is out of the Listed-winning Zieten mare Zeiting, a half-sister to Shadwell's exciting young broodmare Madany, who has produced top-notchers and young stallions Massaat and Eqtidaar among her first three foals.

Porcelaine provides another feather in the cap for Tally-Ho Stud flagship stallion Kodiac, who holds the world record for number of two-year-old winners in a single crop (61) and has supplied Group 1 winners Best Solution, Fairyland, Hello Youmzain and Tiggy Wiggy.

She hails from the sire's 2017 crop, conceived when his fee leapt from €25,000 to €45,000. That generation also includes the stakes-placed Aroha, Kemble, Light Blush, Nurse Barbara and Ursulina.

Porcelaine represents the same Kodiac-Pivotal cross as last year's Flying Five Stakes heroine Fairyland, Carnarvon Stakes winner Never Back Down and Star Stakes runner-up Light Blush.
