Robert Moss is a prime example of just how addictive racing and breeding thoroughbreds can be, and the enthusiastic owner-breeder has much to look forward to with Mr Scaramanga taking up stallion duties at LM Stallions' March Hare Stud.

Moss, who has experienced plenty of ups and downs since bitten by the bug more than ten years ago, has entrusted the six-time winning and Superlative Stakes-placed son of Sir Percy to Luke Gedge-Gibson's burgeoning operation.

Moss bought Grade 3 winner Legends Of War, a son of Scat Daddy, in 2020 and he has since joined the LM Stallions roster in Dorset.

He explained: "I bought Legends Of War in August last year from Qatar Racing in America to put into stud. I love having foals and, aside from racing, the part of the game that interests me most is the breeding.

"He was sent to Luke and he's started covering now, including my own Chica De La Noche, who I retired only because I wanted to breed from her. She's just had a foal by Le Brivido and I'm hoping for great things."

Mr Scaramanga, who landed the lucrative Al Biddah Mile in Doha for Moss and his trainer Simon Dow in 2017, will join a roster which includes 2,000 Guineas runner-up Tip Two Win, Windsor Castle scorer Southern Hills, and Diplomat, the multiple Group 2-winning son of Teofilo.

On his decision to retire the seven-year-old, Moss said: "Mr Scaramanga was a successful horse for me, he won in Qatar and won quite a few races over here too, but it was time for him to retire.

"I was speaking to Luke and he said he'd be interested in using him - for me it was the ideal scenario as he's got a lovely set-up. We agreed to share him and he's settled in really well, he's very happy."

Moss, an electrical wholesaler based in Dartford, speaks Spanish and gives his horses Spanish names.

His clear love for them, and enthusiasm for racing generally, will only grow, with more arrivals on the way alongside a number of talented horses in training.

Speaking on Thursday, he added: "The very first horse I had was called Vezere and she's now had eight foals, including one running at the moment, Chica Del Dia. I've got two in foal at the moment and a Proconsul yearling out of Vezere.

"Legends covered Chica De La Noche yesterday, so if that was successful I'd bring her back to Epsom and she can have her foal there next year."
