Oaks winner Look Here dies aged 14 after contracting colic
Broodmare claimed Listed success with daughter Hereby
Less than a month after recording her first stakes winner as a broodmare, Julian Richmond-Watson’s 2008 Oaks winner Look Here has died from colic.
Her trainer Ralph Beckett revealed the news about the daughter of Hernando, who was also produced by her owner’s Lawn Stud out of the unraced Rainbow Quest mare Last Look.
Look Here, the joint-best filly of her generation, went on to finish third to Conduit in the St Leger and was kept in training at four, where she was third again in a blanket finish to the Coronation Cup as well as to Dar Re Mi in the Pretty Polly Stakes.
She has had four foals of racing age, three of which won races. Here And Now, who moved to the ownership of Ronnie Arculli, has been a smart staying handicapper who won at last year’s Ebor meeting while Herawi notched two minor successes.
Hereby is looking her best to date, not making her debut as a three-year-old until the spring but managing to win five of seven starts, most recently in the Londonmetric Noel Murless Stakes at Ascot.
Look Here’s last progeny is a yearling Pivotal full-sister to Hereby, who is still at Richmond-Watson’s farm. She was in foal to Lope De Vega at the time of her premature death.
Beckett told Sky Sports Racing that she had been taken into Newmarket Equine Hospital earlier this week but staff had been unable to save her.
