Monsun stallion Salutino is set to be the second lot into the ring at the Goresbridge October Sale in County Kilkenny on Friday.

Ronnie O'Neill has stood Salutino (lot 2) at the nearby Whytemount Stud for the past number of years, with the 17-year-old son of Monsun having originally embarked on his stud career at Gestut Saartal in Germany.

Salutino was bred and raced by Gestut Schlenderhan and placed a number of times at the highest level under the tutelage of Andreas Schutz and later Andre Fabre.

Among his runners to date is the useful Jessica Harrington-trained Discordantly, who opened his account over hurdles at Fairyhouse in April, while his son Checkitout found favour with Highflyer Bloodstock and Charlie Longsdon when sold for €37,000 at last year's Tattersalls Cheltenham May Sale.

Also up for auction on Friday is Carrigdownane Stud's Ocovango half-brother (33) to high-class hurdler Wholestone, who will race for the second time over fences at Cheltenham later in the day, having won a Perth novice chase in late September.

Ocovango supplied his first winner in Britain and Ireland when Langer Dan won a Ludlow maiden hurdle earlier in October.
