Midday strikes as a broodmare for the third time as son Midi breaks maiden

Juddmonte's brilliant racemare Midday made it three winners from her first three foals when three-year-old son Midi shed his maiden tag on his second start, in a 1m2f novice stakes at Windsor on Monday.

Frankel colt Midi, trained by Sir Michael Stoute for Khalid Abdullah, showed little on debut at Newmarket last September and had undergone wind surgery before his belated but successful three-year-old reappearance.

Midi made all the running at Windsor. Shaken up a furlong from home by jockey Ryan Moore, he readily saw off his rivals with Petrastar, a Passing Glance gelding trained by Clive Cox, staying on stoutly to finish a one-and-a-quarter-length second.

It looks onwards and upwards for the colt now, and he may find further improvement for a step up in trip. So there is the chance he could eventually make it a clean sweep of stakes winners from Midday's first three offspring.

Her first foal, the five-year-old Galileo gelding Midterm, landed the Group 3 Classic Trial at Sandown, while her second, Midi's four-year-old sister Mori, took the Listed Height of Fashion Stakes and finished second in the Ribblesdale.

Midday also has a two-year-old filly by Frankel called Daytime and a yearling filly by Galileo. She was covered by Galileo again last year.

A 12-year-old daughter of Oasis Dream, Midday had a stellar racing career overseen by Sir Henry Cecil on behalf of Abdullah.

She triumphed in nine of her 23 starts, six times at the highest level – in the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, Yorkshire Oaks and Prix Vermeille, as well as three successive renewals of the Nassau Stakes.

She also finished a head second in the Oaks, was beaten a neck into second in her repeat bid for the Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf, and was also runner-up in the Juddmonte International and Coronation Cup.

Midday hails from a fine Juddmonte family, as a half-sister to stakes winners Hot Snap and Midsummer Sun, as well as this season's Ribblesdale third Sun Maiden – also by Frankel.

She is out of Midsummer, a Listed-placed half-sister to multiple Group 1 winners Elmaamul and Reams Of Verse.
