Jonjo Bright gets pinhooking career off to flying start at Goffs Land Rover Sale

Jonjo Bright was among the vendors to enjoy some good fortune during a bumper edition of the Goffs Land Rover Sale on Wednesday, when his first offering at public auction, a Fame And Glory gelding pinhooked for €14,000, was bought by Kevin Ross for €38,000.

"I'm delighted," said Bright after seeing the hammer come down on the three-year-old. "He was a lovely walker and could always move, it was just a matter of keeping him healthy and sound and getting him here.

"He's been a dream to do and very straightforward the whole time - it could be a while before I'm bringing one here that's as nice as he is."

Bright, a promising jockey who was paralysed from the neck down in a fall at Tyrella point-to-point aged just 19, went on to expand on his pinhooking ambitions, saying: "I've been trying to buy two foals every year, this is my oldest crop and he's the first one to sell.

"The other three-year-old, a son of Imperial Monarch, has been backed and I'm going to hold on to him and run him in a point-to-point. I've two yearlings, two two-year-olds at home and I'll be back out in November trying to get another two recruits."

Ross was clearly impressed with the son of Fame And Glory, a half-brother to smart chaser Drumacoo who was consigned by Kilgreel Stables.

"He was a nice horse and he'd been produced very well," said Ross. "I saw the horse at home in the north and really liked him there. He's a good stamp of a horse, he moved well and his half-brother has a rating of 143.

"He'll probably go point-to-pointing with Stuart Crawford now."
