Irish National Stud introduces sales preparation course
Two-week residential programme runs from July
The Irish National Stud has announced a new course providing practical knowledge of thoroughbred sales preparation.
A two-week residential programme during July and October will include a series of lectures provided by INS staff and industry experts.
Successful students, who must be over 18, have prior practical equine experience and at least five passes in the Leaving Certificate or approved equivalent, will be awarded with an INS certificate.
Anne Channon, the INS education development manager, said: "From interaction with industry stakeholders we recognised that there was a skills gap in this area of the industry.
"The residential course is designed to allow candidates to participate in a one-week intensive yearling preparation programme before joining an employer for the yearling preparation season, a follow up week of training will take place in October and will concentrate on foal sales preparation.
"The course is practical in nature and is complemented with a series of evening lectures provided by industry experts."
Channon said that although the INS is not responsible for organising employment for candidates, it would assist in finding opportunities.
Applications for the course close on June 20 and further information or an application form can be obtained by contacting achannon@irishnationalstud.ie
