'He's an outstanding individual' - Eagles By Day to join Glenview Stud roster

High-class stayer Eagles By Day has retired from racing and will join the roster at Glenview Stud, joining the likes of Sholokhov, Shirocco and Blue Bresil for the 2022 breeding season.

The son of Sea The Stars raced in the colours of Clipper Logistics and was second on his sole start at two before shelving his maiden tag at the third time of asking in April of his three-year-old campaign. He first gained black type when third to Japan in the King Edward VII Stakes.

After leaving Michael Bell's yard for David O'Meara, Eagles By Day went on to win the John Smith's Silver Cup Stakes at York before finishing fourth to Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup last term. The handsome bay was also second to Hukum on his final start in the Cumberland Lodge Stakes in October.

Eagles By Day was bred by Vanessa Hutch and sold to Joe Foley for 125,000gns at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in 2016.

The five-year-old is the first foal out of the classy dual-code mare Missunited, a daughter of Golan who won the Lillie Langtry Stakes and Galway Hurdle as well as finishing second to Leading Light in the Ascot Gold Cup.

Glenview Stud's Paul Cashman said of the new recruit: "Eagles By Day is an outstanding individual with plenty of size and substance. I’m confident he will prove a great attraction for Irish breeders."
