Globe-trotting Group 1 winner State Of Rest to stand at Rathbarry Stud
Starspangledbanner colt has been acquired by Rathbarry, Newgate and partners
Triple top-level 1 winner State Of Rest will stand the Northern Hemisphere breeding season at the Cashman family's Rathbarry Stud, following his acquisition by Rathbarry, Newgate Stud and partners for his stallion career.
The 2021 Cox Plate winner has a number of international Group 1 targets for the remainder of the season ahead of a dual-hemisphere stallion career.
"We are delighted to have purchased such an elite and unique international racehorse to join our stallion roster when he completes his racing career," said Paul Cashman of Rathbarry Stud.
Trained by Joseph O'Brien, State Of Rest made a winning debut over six furlongs at two and went on to be third in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster. He started his three-year-old season with third in the Listed Celebration Stakes at the Curragh before starting his travels and his Grade 1 victory in the Saratoga Derby.
From there he headed to Australia for a second top-flight success in the Cox Plate. He gained his third Group 1 triumph in a third different country at Longchamp last weekend with his defeat of a field that included Group 1 winners Sealiway, Skalleti and Mare Australis.
Bred by Tinnakill Bloodstock out of the Quiet American mare Repose, he was sold for 45,000gns as a foal to Diamond Bloodstock and made 60,000gns to Aidan O'Ryan and Joseph O'Brien from Whatton Manor Stud at Tattersalls Book 2.
His dam is an unraced half-sister to Listed winners Echo River and Prince Alzain out of Virginia Stakes winner Monaassabaat, a daughter of Zilzal and American champion two-and three-year-old filly It's In The Air.
Monaassabaat is a half-sister to the dams of Group/Grade 1 winners Storming Home, Musical Chimes and Music Note who herself is the dam of 2021 Dubai World Cup winner Mystic Guide.
