Global Prospector took the first step towards repaying his hefty 800,000gns price-tag when burning off his rivals with a front-running effort to break his maiden by three and a quarter lengths on debut in a 6f Wolverhampton maiden on Saturday.

The three-year-old colt is trained by Clive Cox for Dr Johnny Hon, who through Charlie Gordon-Watson Bloodstock paid the second highest sum at last year's Tattersalls Craven Breeze-Up Sale to secure him.

His value was inflated by the fact he hails from the final crop of the late Ashford Stud stallion Scat Daddy, source of Triple Crown hero Justify and Royal Ascot victors Acapulco, Caravaggio, Con Te Partiro, Lady Aurelia, No Nay Never and Sioux Nation.

The most expensive and third dearest lots at the Craven Sale of 2018 were also by Scat Daddy – Legends Of War, a dual winner and Gimcrack Stakes runner-up, at 900,000gns and Giottino, fifth of 25 behind Ten Sovereigns on his sole start in a Curragh maiden, at 775,000gns.

Global Prospector also has appeal on the bottom half of his pedigree, though, as a brother to Naas Listed winner Dali out of Alegendinmyownmind, a daughter of Cape Cross and US Grade 2 winner and Oaks third Midnight Line.

He was bred by Tada Nobutaka and originally sold by Eaton Sales to Robert Moss and John Egan for $270,000 at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale. It was Willie Browne's Mocklershill Stables that consigned him to the breeze-up.

Alegendinmyownmind has a two-year-old colt by Declaration Of War sold to Fozzy Stack for $350,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Yearling Sale last year.

Global Prospector holds no fancy entries but looks well capable of making up into a smart sprinter, maybe miler.
