Gestut Rottgen mourns loss of its fine producer Enrica

Gestut Rottgen is mourning the loss of its fine producer Enrica, whose five black-type performers included the stud's seventh German Oaks winner Enora, following a severe colic at the age of 25, the stud announced on its social media channels this week.

The producer of nine winners, Enrica was herself a high-class racemare in the Rottgen colours, finishing second in the Group 2 Premio Lydia Tesio, and was out of the German Listed winner Eicidora, who was purchased carrying Enrica in utero by Rottgen in 1993.

As well as Enora - who was quick of the mark at stud, producing the 2017 Group 3 Preis des Winterfavoriten winner Erasmus - Enrica was also responsible for Group 2 Hansa-Preis winner Egerton and Group 3 scorer Ephraim.

Enrica was also the granddam of the Group 1-placed Eliot and fellow black-type performers El Loco and Elora Princess.

Following Enora's Classic success in 2010, Rottgen stud manager Frank Dorff told the Racing Post: "We bought Enora's third dam, the Listed-winning Surumu mare Eicidora, in foal to Enora's dam, Enrica, in 1993.

"Eicidora also produced for us Enrique, who was Listed-placed in Germany and developed into a useful chaser in Britain, but it is Enrica who has been a really important broodmare for us."
