More than two years after the final race of Silviniaco Conti, a worthy successor to the popular chestnut might just be appearing.

Bred along AQPS lines by Patrick Joubert, Silviniaco Conti was by Dom Alco out of Gazelle Lulu, who has turned into an outstanding broodmare.

She has already delivered regular Grand National runner and prolific hunter chaser Ucello Conti, promising Willie Mullins recruit Class Conti and Listed French chaser Toscana Conti.

Silviniaco Conti was much the highest profile, his CV including a pair of King Georges, Betfair Chases and Betfred Bowls. He had only a brief retirement before suffering what ultimately proved a fatal accident while team chasing.

Guillaume Macaire went to €180,000 to secure Gazelle Lulu’s two-year-old son by Poliglote at the Arqana Deauville Summer Mixed Sale 12 months ago and he has made the brightest of starts, landing a bumper at Niort in Western France last month.

Stepped up in trip over hurdles at Clairefontaine on Saturday, he was even more impressive in coasting home from another previous winner in Fastorslow and is surely about to start attracting attention from well-heeled owners.
