Domestic Spending's Hollywood Derby strike gives Kingman third Group 1 winner

Domestic Spending became Kingman's third individual Group 1 winner when running out a narrow scorer of the Hollywood Derby at Del Mar on Sunday.

The three-year-old gelding, trained by Chad Brown, was a 300,000gns purchase from Book 1 of Tattersalls October Yearling Sale in 2018 when consigned by Highclere Stud.

Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock and purchased by Klaravich Stables, Domestic Spending is the first and only foal out of the Street Cry mare Urban Castle, a Listed winner on the all-weather for James Tate in 2015.

Urban Castle herself is the 12th foal out of Cloud Castle and therefore a half-sister to Group 3 winner and Blandford Stakes second Queen's Best, the dam of Breeders' Cup Filly & Mare Turf victress Queen's Trust, a Cheveley Park homebred daughter of Dansili.

Urban Castle, who sadly died at the age of six, is also a half-sibling to the stakes-winning Reverie Solitaire, the dam of Group 2 Badener Meile scorer Royal Solitaire, plus Wadaa, a winning daughter of Dynaformer and the dam of Godolphin's promising Prix Six Perfections runner-up Wedding Dance.

It was a fourth win from five starts for Domestic Spending, whose sole defeat came when third behind Grade 1 Summer Stakes winner Decorated Invader in the National Museum Of Racing Hall Of Fame Stakes at Saratoga in July.

Domestic Spending was following in the footsteps of Persian King and Palace Pier in providing his sire with top-level success. Kingman has so far been responsible for 48 stakes performers, including 13 Group winners.

The Banstead Manor Stud resident has continued his rapid ascent up the stallion ranks this year and will again stand for a fee of £150,000 in 2021.
