Dolayli shows promise for fabled Aga Khan family at Saint-Cloud
Siyouni colt is a son of Group 1 winner Dolniya
Exemplary mare Dolniya continued what is a pretty perfect record with her progeny as Dolayli landed the Prix Mississipian at Saint-Cloud, a three-year-old newcomers' event.
The colt is a complete Aga Khan product, being sired by the owner-breeder's leading stallion Siyouni out of Azamour's daughter Dolniya, who strung a formidable sequence together including the 2015 Dubai Sheema Classic, followed by a narrow defeat in the Coronation Cup.
Dolniya has already produced Group 3 Prix Quincey winner Dilawar and four-year-old Dolia, a winner who has been placed in two Listed events.
The family includes some of the Aga Khan hall of famers as Dolniya's dam was a half-sister to both the Arc and Jockey Club hero Dalakhani and Godolphin's brilliant Daylami.
In the hands of Christophe Soumillon, who also partnered his dam, Dolayli came a comfortable three-quarters of a length clear.
Francis Graffard, now the principal trainer for connections in France, said: "I'm very happy with his debut and he's a good-looking colt who is obviously very well-bred. He had a nice lesson there and he's still quite babyish but Christophe was very happy.
"He'll be an interesting horse to follow but we'll go step by step with him and he'll need to get stronger with experience. He moves well and he can accelerate but he's still quite immature."
Dolniya has a two-year-old Kingman filly named Doulama and bore a Frankel colt this year.
The same connections also unveiled the immaculately-bred Zarka, a filly by Dubawi out of the unbeaten Arc queen Zarkava, who finished fifth in the fillies' equivalent, the Prix Producer.
