Coolmore acquire share in Kentucky Derby prospect Galilean
Colt's first target is Saturday's Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park
The Coolmore group of John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith has purchased an interest in multiple stakes winner Galilean from West Point Thoroughbreds and partners ahead of Saturday's Grade 1 Arkansas Derby at Oaklawn Park.
The colt is by Uncle Mo, who stands at Coolmore's Ashford Stud in Kentucky.
"We are immensely gratified to have Coolmore join us in the ownership of Galilean as he looks to lock down a spot in the Kentucky Derby," said West Point chief executive Terry Finley.
West Point, Denise Barker and William Sandbrook bought Galilean for a sale-topping $600,000 at the Barretts Spring Breeze-Up Sale in 2018.
He has scored three stakes wins in five career starts, capturing the Barretts Juvenile Stakes last September on debut followed by the King Glorious Stakes by nine lengths in December, both run at Los Alamitos, and the California Cup Derby at Santa Anita by over four lengths on his seasonal reappearance in February.
Jerry Hollendorfer trains Galilean, who finished third in the Grade 2 Rebel Stakes in mid-March and will begin from post seven with Flavien Prat aboard in the $1 million Arkansas Derby.
