Kingston Hill, the Classic winning son of Mastercraftsman, will continue his stallion career at Nunstainton Stud in County Durham.

The Racing Post Trophy and St Leger winner had stood at Coolmore for the last six seasons, initially at the operation's Fethard base and latterly at Castlehyde Stud outside Fermoy. However in a deal brokered by Richard Venn, the 11-year-old, who was trained by Roger Varian and raced in the silks of Paul Smith, will relocate to the north-east of England ahead of the 2022 breeding season.

“This is a great opportunity not only for the breeders of the north-east but for all UK breeders to use a horse of his calibre,” said Chris Dawson of Nunstainton Stud.

“He was an unbeaten Group 1 winner as a juvenile, runner-up in the Epsom Derby with over three lengths back to the rest and winner of a strong renewal of the St Leger. He covered good-sized books at Coolmore’s Castlehyde Stud in Ireland so will have plenty of horses to run for him over the coming seasons.”

Kingston Hill was second to Australia in the 2014 Derby and also won the Group 3 Autumn Stakes in an unbeaten juvenile season.

His oldest crop has just turned five and includes Keith Dalgleish's bumper winner Hear Me Out, the Paul Nicholls-trained winning hurdler Irish Hill and Kingston Kid who was successful over hurdles

He joins a roster that includes Dragon Dancer, Cannock Chase and Norse Dancer with the first-named one of 18 stallions who will be on show during the Thoroughbred Breeders' Association (TBA) National Hunt Stallion Showcase at Goffs UK on Tuesday.

Kingston Hill will stand the 2022 season at £2,000, while there are some concessions.
