Chris Richardson admitted he might have preferred Konchek to have prevailed in Thursday's July Stakes at Newmarket but the Cheveley Park Stud boss was nevertheless thrilled to have produced the one-two in the Group 2 contest, having also bred the impressive winner Advertise.

Having finished second behind the exciting Calyx in the Coventry Stakes last month, Advertise was a warm favourite and the son of Whitsbury Manor Stud's Showcasing delivered in style, defeating Konchek by a comfortable two lengths for Phoenix Thoroughbreds.

Konchek is by Cheveley Park's Lethal Force and Richardson said: "I was a bit divided, I'd have liked the Lethal Force to have won it but they are two very nice horses.

"We took them to the sales, they made their money and now they've been successful, which is what it's all about," said Richardson.

Advertise is out of the Pivotal mare Furbelow and was bought by Dermot Farrington at last year's Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale for £60,000.

Richardson said: "He was a beautiful yearling. We raise them the same whether they're colts or fillies but our policy is to offer the colts and we've had the first and second today. As studs, we always like to support each other, so Mr and Mrs Harper send horses to us and we send horses to them.

"Furbelow is a nice mare. She has a Dream Ahead yearling filly, a Lethal Force colt foal and she's in foal to our new horse, Ulysses."

Ulysses was among the stallions paraded at Cheveley Park earlier this week and reflecting on his first year at stud, Richardson said: "He covered 117 mares in total and has been well supported, particularly of course by the Niarchos family and we sent a number of horses to him.

"He's got nine individual Group 1-winning mares and 29 Group-winning mares, so he's made a very good start. He's let down magnificently and impressed the breeders at our open evening."
