Call The Wind another Group 1 winner for sire Frankel and dam In Clover
The Prix du Cadran hero is a half-brother to We Are and With You
Unbeaten dual world champion Frankel has a fifth Group/Grade 1 winner under his belt as a sire thanks to the victory of his son Call The Wind in the Qatar Prix du Cadran at Longchamp on Saturday.
Trained by Freddy Head for owner-breeder George Strawbridge, the four-year-old Call The Wind has benefited from a patient approach by connections.
Call The Wind only made his debut in March and had not contested a stakes race before Saturday, when he stepped straight up from taking two conditions races by clear water to defeat Holdthasigreen (by Hold That Tiger) by a length and a quarter in the Group 1 over 2m4f.
Head reported after the race that the Gold Cup at Ascot next year would now be under consideration for the gelding.
Call The Wind joins Cracksman, Mozu Ascot, Soul Stirring and Without Parole as top-level winning offspring of Frankel, who commanded a fee of £175,000 at Banstead Manor Stud this year.
In all, the son of Galileo has supplied 25 Pattern winners and another eight Listed scorers from three crops to have raced.
Call The Wind also hails from a powerful distaff family.
He is the sixth foal out of the Group 3-winning Inchinor mare In Clover, making him a half-brother to two other elite winners – With You, who landed the Prix Rothschild this year, and We Are, who took the Prix de l'Opera at the Arc meeting four years ago.
In Clover is also the dam of Listed winners Dream Clover and Incahoots, and has a two-year-old filly by Dansili called Featuring, a yearling colt by Dansili and a colt foal by Dubawi. She was covered by Invincible Spirit this year.
This is a prolific family, as the 16-year-old mare is out of Group 3 winner Bellarida, making her a half-sister to stakes scorers Bayourida (dam of Listed winner Telluride) and Bellona (granddam of stakes-winning siblings Dominant, Es Que Love, Listen In and Zhui Feng).
Bellarida is also ancestress of this season's Poule d'Essai des Pouliches heroine Teppal and last year's €1.6 million Goffs Orby Yearling Sale top lot Old Glory, a three-parts brother to Group winners Adjusted and Giuseppe Piazzi who finished second in the Listed Star Appeal Stakes on Friday.
