Blue-blooded Group 2 winner Shaman to stand at Yeomanstown

The Classic-placed Prix d'Harcourt winner Shaman has joined the roster at Yeomanstown Stud in Ireland for the 2021 breeding season.

Bred and raced by the Wertheimer family and trained by Carlos Laffon-Parias, he is out of their dual Listed-winning Green Desert mare Only Green, who set the pace for superstar Goldikova on many occasions

The mare is a half-sister to Group 1 champion and blue hen Occupandiste - the immediate family of names such as Intello and Mondialiste and one of the deepest in the stud book.

Shaman was twice a winner at two and was second and third at Listed and Group level before running a creditable fifth in the Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere.

As a three year old, Shaman's victories in the Prix Omnium and the Prix la Force set him up for the French 2,000 Guineas, where he was a length behind Persian King, followed by fifth in the St James's Palace at Royal Ascot and a second place in the Prix Jacques le Marois against his elders.

This year, he beat a field including Group 1 winners Sottsass and Way To Paris in the Harcourt, before finishing third to the former in the Prix Ganay.

David O’Callaghan of Yeomanstown said: "He is a great looking son of the mighty Shamardal from one of the best pedigrees around. Add to that his impressive race record, Shaman is a huge addition to us and should prove popular to breeders from both Ireland and abroad.

Shaman joins a roster headed by Dark Angel, followed by Camacho, Invincible Army and El Kabeir. His fee is to be announced in the coming weeks.
