Ballyhane Stud's Battle Of Marengo off the mark
Ballyhane Stud-based freshman sire Battle Of Marengo got off the mark when daughter Bridge Battlango landed a 5f maiden at Rome on Sunday.
The filly was bred by Ballyhane and sold by the farm to trainer Pierpaolo Sbariggia for €6,000 at last year's Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.
She is out of the winning Dubawi mare Fashion Central, a half-sister to stakes winners Aischa and Tenenbaum, and is descended from the useful sprinter Lady Blackfoot.
Battle Of Marengo – a son of Galileo and Listed winner Anna Karenina – was a dual Group 2 winner and finished fourth to Ruler Of The World in the Derby for Aidan O'Brien.
He later raced for Al Asayl Bloodstock, who stands the horse in partnership with Ballyhane Stud.
Battle Of Marengo has a first crop that numbers 67 foals and despite covering at a bargain fee – only €4,000 in 2018 – his yearlings sold for up to £85,000, with Shadwell paying that sum for a colt out of the Danehill Dancer mare Lost Highway at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale.
