Arqana strengthens bloodstock team with recruitment of ex-Newmarket man Gussago
Arqana has strengthened its bloodstock team with the recruitment of Mario Gussago, formerly travelling head lad to Marco Botti and assistant to Roger Varian.
Gussago, 31, will be working on various projects and supporting inspection teams in Britain, France and Italy.
Gussago left Italy to join Botti's stables in Newmarket as travelling head lad, and after five years of gaining experience across the country, as well as in Ireland and France, he then worked for several years as assistant to Varian.
He said: "My experience with trainers in England has given me a solid knowledge of racing and the industry in general. I’m delighted to be able to join the Arqana team, where I’ll now be able to experience the sales from behind the scenes.
“I’d like to thank Eric Hoyeau, Freddy Powell and Ludovic Cornuel for giving me this opportunity and trusting in me to take up this new challenge."
Cornuel, Arqana’s bloodstock director, added: "We’re delighted to welcome Mario to the team. His solid experience in racing and with trainers across Europe are important assets as we continue to strengthen our team."
