Arqana appoints Villamil as first agent in South America
His family stand the shuttler Most Improved from Coolmore
Arqana continues to expand its network of international representatives with the appointment of Matias Villamil in South America.
It is the first time the Deauville-based sales company has appointed a business representative in that part of the world.
Villamil, 32, lives in Buenos Aires and belongs to the third generation of breeders in a family deeply involved in the thoroughbred industry.
After four years of working for the Argentinian sales company Antonio Bullrich SA, Villamel started his own bloodstock sales business, Villamil Remates, a year ago while continuing to run the family’s Rodeo Chico stud farm along with his brothers.
Established in San Antonio de Areco, the farm is home to 40 broodmares and four stallions including Most Improved who shuttles from Coolmore Stud in Ireland.
Freddy Powell, head of bloodstock at Arqana, said: “We're very pleased to welcome Matias within our network of international representatives.
"South America is a natural partner for Arqana as French stock contributed significantly to the foundation of the leading breeding operations in Argentina, Brazil and Chile.
"Breeders in these countries are familiar with the old Dupre, Stern and Boussac families as well as with today’s Aga Khan, Wildenstein and Wertheimer pedigrees."
