Snitzel upped to A$220,000 as Arrowfield releases 2018 prices

Following another brilliant season on the track and in the sales ring, champion sire Snitzel will stand for an increased fee of A$220,000 (£120,000/€137,000) at Arrowfield Stud this year (all fees include GST).

The 15-year-old, who is on course to retain his champion sire crown, covered a book of 216 mares for a fee of A$176,000 last year and has enjoyed notable success this season courtesy of three-time Group 1 winner Trapeze Artist, leading sprinter Redzel and his first Golden Slipper Stakes in Estijaab.

His 41 yearlings to sell at this month's Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale sold for an aggregate of A$21,685,000, to a top of A$1,550,000 and an average of A$528,902.

He will again stand alongside Redoute's Choice, his father and three-time champion sire in Australia, whose fee remains unchanged at A$137,500 this year.

Redoute's Choice had 14 yearlings sell for a total aggregate of A$5,830,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale with a top price of A$1.5 million, and Pariah will become the latest son of the leading stallion to join his father's dynasty at Arrowfield.

The Group 3-winning and Group 1-placed colt will stand for an introductory fee of A$22,000 this year, and James Harron, who managed the horse's career, said he viewed the three-year-old as a future stallion when spending A$700,000 on him at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

"Our mission at the yearling sales is find stallions of the future, and Pariah's profile was impeccable," Harron said. "Physically he was a truly outstanding yearling, by the pre-eminent sire of sires in Redoute's Choice and from an exceptional colonial speed family.

"He fits all of our criteria as a hugely exciting stallion prospect and we will be supporting him heavily at stud with top-class mares."

Another hugely successful son of Redoute's Choice to stand at Arrowfield once again will be Not A Single Doubt, whose fee for 2018 has been increased from A$88,000 to A$99,000.

He has been represented by 14 stakes winners so far this season, including Caulfield Guineas winner Mighty Boss.

"Snitzel, Not A Single Doubt and Beneteau - all by Redoute's Choice, all outstanding two-year-olds and all outstanding sires. Pariah is in the same mould and we are excited to stand him," said Arrowfield Stud chairman John Messara.

Meanwhile, fees for the three shuttlers Arrowfield stood last year are all unchanged, with Japan's horse of the year Maurice offered at A$33,000, Japanese champion sprinter-miler Mikki Isle commanding a fee of A$13,750 and European two-year-old Group 1 winner Shalaa remaining at A$33,000.

Dundeel (A$27,500), who has sired Group 3 winner Irukandji from his first crop, Japanese shuttler Real Impact (A$19,250), Scissor Kick (A$16,500) and Olympic Glory (A$16,500) also also remain at the same price for 2018.

Vinery Stud release 2018 fees

Vinery Stud have released their prices for 2018, with perennial sire More Than Ready (Southern Halo) set to stand for A$66,000 (£36,100/€41,100) for the fifth consecutive year (all fees include GST).

The US-bred shuttler will be returning for his 18th straight season having covered a book of 95 mares in 2017, and the 21-year-old has so far sired 183 individual stakes winners on six different continents.

Meanwhile, former champion Australian three-year-old colt All Too Hard (Casino Prince) will stand for a reduced fee of A$33,000 this year having commanded a fee of A$44,000 in 2017.

All Too Hard is currently leading the Australian second-season sires' standings by winners with 50, and his third crop of yearlings sold to a top of A$500,000 at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale.

Star Turn’s fee remains unchanged at A$22,000 for his second season at stud, with the Group 2-winning and Group 1-placed sprinter covering a book of 158 mares during 2017.

Both Headwater, by Exceed And Excel, and Press Statement, by Hinchinbrook, will stand for A$16,500 this year, with the latter’s fee reduced from A$22,000.

Headwater was leading first-crop stallion at the recent Inglis Australian Broodmare and Weanling Sale, with a top lot of A$75,000, while the first 19 foals by Press Statement will go through the ring at next months Magic Millions Gold Coast National Weanling Sale.

Casino Prince, the sire of 15 stakes winners, has also had his fee reduced from A$11,000 to A$9,900, with Group 3-producing sire Pluck also standing at a reduced fee of A$6,600.

Testa Rossa remains on the Vinery roster for 2018, but the 21-year-old will cover a limited book this year.
