$1.1 million buy Sergei Prokofiev breaks maiden at Navan
Aidan O'Brien colt is a son of Scat Daddy
Sergei Prokofiev, a $1.1 million son of Scat Daddy who was among the top ten most expensive lots when bought by MV Magnier at last year's Keeneland September Yearling Sale, shed his maiden at the second attempt when an impressive winner at Navan on Monday.
The Aidan O'Brien colt had appeared green on debut when beaten by Skitter Skatter at Dundalk earlier this month but showed no such signs on Monday, eventually pulling away to win by seven and a half lengths.
Bred by Anderson Farms out of the Tapit mare Orchard Beach, Sergei Prokofiev is from the family of the Grade 3-winning mare Necessary Evil and Turf Dash Stakes scorer Forest Danz.
Sergei Prokofiev's victory comes a day after So Perfect, a daughter of Scat Daddy bought by MV Magnier for $400,000 at the same sale in 2017, got off the mark at Navan on Sunday.
So Perfect was bred by Machmer Hall in Kentucky out of the winning Songandaprayer mare Hopeoverexperience and is a sister to the Japanese Listed-placed Scat Eddie and a half-sister to US winner Foreign Affair.
The pair are a clutch of offspring by the late Scat Daddy that are owned by Coolmore, headed by Kentucky Derby contender Mendelssohn.
