Wigan eased to 14-1 for drop after tonking Toon
THERE are still five teams battling for Premier League survival but Wigan look the least likely to slide throughthe trapdoor after defeating Newcastle 4-0 at the DW Stadium on Saturday.
The Latics have struggled for so long against the top flight’s big
fish but they posted victories over Manchester United and Arsenal earlier this month and they raced into a four-goal half-time lead over Newcastle thanks to a brace from Victor Moses and goals from Shaun Maloney and Franco Di Santo.
The win opened up a three-point gap between Roberto Martinez’s team and the drop zone and prompted a drift in their relegation odds from 3-1 to 14-1.
Newcastle remain in fourth but have eased to 7-2 for a top-four finish and they are four points behind third-placed Arsenal,
drew 1-1 atStoke.
Bolton are third from bottom after a 2-2 draw at Sunderland, while Aston Villa remained 15th following a 0-0 at West Brom.
Villa will be the happier of the two as they were eased from 6-1 to 8-1 for the drop, while Bolton were cut from 6-4 to 11-8.
Wolves provided the comeback of the day by recovering from a 4-1 defecit to secure a 4-4 draw at Swansea. And the Black Country side’s recovery was bad news for those who backed the hosts at a Betfair low of 1.01 in-play.
