Torres out of Liverpool's clash with Lyon

LIVERPOOL remain a shade of odd-on for Tuesday's Champions League clash with Lyon despite confirmation on Monday that Fernando Torres will miss the match.

The striker was absent from the Reds' weekend defeat at the Stadium of Light after returning injured from international duty and he has not recovered in time to take his place in the match squad.

Rafael Benitez will however be able to call on Steven Gerrard, who has recovered from a groin strain and he was upbeat about the England man's physical condition.

"Gerrard is now fine, he has trained normally today and will play against Lyon," he said

"But Fernando is not close enough to fitness to be considered. He will miss this one but I hope he will be OK to play against Manchester United next weekend."

Lyon remain a best priced 4-1 but have been trimmed by most firms and are as short as 15-4.
