Terry on the drift to make England squad
JOHN TERRY is 13-8 with Hills to be in the England squad for
Euro 2012, which is due to be announced on Wednesday.
The FA confirmed the date of the announcement having already said it would give Roy Hodgson beyond the end of the Premier League season to decide on his 23 players.
And, while the delay seems to have been good news for Andy Carroll, it has had the opposite effect on Terry’s prospects.
Carroll gave Terry a going-over during Liverpool’s 4-1 win against Chelsea at Anfield, and with his place already under threat due to allegations of racism Hodgson may not feel that Terry merits inclusion on current form.
The former captain was pushed out to 11-4 to make the squad by Hills in the immediate aftermath of the Anfield debacle before being trimmed to 13-8. He remains odds-on to make the trip elsewhere, though again at greatly enhanced prices.
Reports suggest Terry and Rio Ferdinand do not want to play in the same team, so Terry’s struggles could increase the chances of Ferdinand travelling to Poland and the Ukraine.
The Manchester United man is as short as 1-5 with bet365 to be in the squad and can be backed at 5-2 with Paddy Powernot to make it. Only Ladbrokes doubt whether Ferdinand will be named, though even they cut him from 9-4 to 6-4 .
Carroll’s much improved run of form has seen him go odds-on across the board to be named. Hills are biggest at 5-6 and make him the same price to miss out.
