Speedway: Robins hold the edge on Bees

IN a tough match to call, Swindon just get the nod to beat Coventry by more than six points at Blunsdon in Sky's live Elite League speedway tonight.

The Bees have done well in recent visits to Wiltshire, winning on three of their last four visits, but they are facing a much stronger Robins side this evening.

Hans Anderson, Troy Batchelor and Simon Stead form a formidable heat-leading trio, particularly at home, while Nick Morris and Jason Doyle are solid in the main body of the team.

Robin Aspegren and Peter Kildemand are the reserves this evening and the latter, who has made a blinding start to the campaign, is likely to be in for a busy night.

The former Coventry rider was paid for 12 points in his latest home outing and a similar return could be on the cards tonight.

Swindon beat King’s Lynn 50-43 last Thursday despite Batchelor having an off night and team manager Alun Rossiter, who was in charge at Coventry last term, will surely have his boys pumped up for this evening.

Coventry will be looking for a response after home and away defeats to title favourites Poole Pirates on Good Friday. They did register their first league success of the campaign against King’s Lynn 47-43 last Friday and have riders who relish this track.

 Scott Nicholls will have a point to prove having failed to do himself justice when riding for Swindon last term while Chris Harris, although not making the best of starts to this campaign, is a class act on his day.

 Edward Kennett has come back well after last season’s “silencergate” suspension and Kenni Larsson has gone well here in the past.

Aaron Summers has posted some good scores, both for Coventry and Redcar, but had a couple of blips last week while reserves Adam Roynon and Henning Bager are more than capable on their day.

However, they sometimes lack consistency and will find it tougher up against the likes of Peter Kildemand.
