Rovers 8-13 for drop as Magpies swoop at Ewood

BLACKBURN are 8-13 with Hills to be playing in the Championship next season after Steve Kean’s sideslipped to a ninth home defeat of the season against Newcastle on Wednesday night.

A Scott Dann own goal and a late strike from Gabriel Obertan left Rovers in the bottom three after David Dunn had a penalty saved by Magpies keeper TimKrul and Bolton were able to earn an extra point’s cushion by claiming a draw with Arsenal.

The Trotters are even money to go down while the Reebok stalemate left the Gunners five points adrift of fourth-placed Chelsea in seventh and Arsene Wenger’s side are 5-2 with Hills to claim a place in next season’s Champions League as a
result of their league position.

QPR new boy Djibril Cisse got off to the perfect start at his new club by scoring the opener against Aston Villa but Rangers surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Villa Park.

Meanwhile Sunderland beat Norwich 3-0 and Fulham and West Brom drew 1-1, while Leicester needed a late goal to draw 2-2at home to Middlesbrough in the Championship.
