Red Devils 200-1 to emulate treble-winning class of '99

MANCHESTER United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes the imminent arrival of Robin van Persie into their four-man strikeforce potentially rivals that of their treble-winning side of 1999.

Wayne Rooney, Danny Welbeck and Javier Hernandez are all proven Premier League strikers and United are 200-1 with Boylesports to match the class of 99’s feat.

Ferguson said, “In 1999 I had Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the four best strikers in Europe. We are going towards that now.”

In addition to those four, new signing Shinji Kagawa scored 13 times for Borussia Dortmund last season and with Nani, Ashley Young and Dimitar Berbatov also in the equation Hills offer 5-6 that United beat last year’s tally of 89 goals.

The prospect of Rooney and van Persie lining up together has also led bet365 to offer 5-6 that the deadly duo will score 36 or more goals between them in the league next season, while Ladbrokes offer the same odds for over or under 42.5 goals.

However, van Persie’s imminent arrival could force Hernandez out of the club in search of first-team football and Arsenal and Spurs are 7-2 and 9-2 favourites to be his next destination with Hills.

Meanwhile, former Manchester United striker Louis Saha signed for Sunderland yesterday on a one year deal but with the Black Cats’ continued pursuit of Wolves’ Steve Fletcher seeming to be ongoing, it’s thought he may play a cameo role this season.

BetVictor are offering 5-1 that King Louis will top the club’s scoring charts this season and 10-11 that the Frenchman will net no more than five goals.
