Owls edge ahead of Blades in promotion fight

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY are in pole position to secure automatic promotion to the Championship after climbing above city rivals Sheffield United on Saturday evening.

The Owls won 2-1 victory at Brentford while United drew 2-2 at home to Stevenage.

Shrewsbury sealed promotion from League Two with a 1-0 victory at home to Dagenham but they cannot catch league leaders Swindon, who sealed the title with a 5-0 victory at home to Port Vale.

Luton booked their place in the Blue Square Bet Premier play-offs with a 2-0 win at Fleetwood and are 10-3 with Blue Square to win promotion, with Mansfield being installed as 9-4 favourites with the sponsors.
