Move for O'Neill to be next England manager
LADBROKES reported a significant bet on Martin O’Neill to be the next England manager on Wednesday and have cut the Sunderland boss from 25-1 to 8-1.
Harry Redknapp remains the firm’s 1-3 favourite but has failed to attract a major bet in the last month, whereas a shop punter in Yorkshire stands to win a “significant five-figure sum”.
Also on Wednesday, Stuart Pearce reduced the number of possible players in Great Britain’s Olympics squad to 80.
Only three players over 23 are allowed to be named, but bookmakers remain convinced David Beckham will be among them despite the likes of Craig Bellamy, Joe Cole, Chris Brunt and Steven Fletcher confirmed as being on the list.
Beckham is 1-2 to start Britain’s opening match.
