HARRY REDKNAPP has been backed off the boards to be next Premier League manager to leave his job amid frenzied sack race betting on Friday morning.

The Spurs manager was a 50-1 shot on Thursday night with only Sir Alex Ferguson's post at Manchester United seen as more secure.

However by Friday lunchtime he had been backed down to no better than 5-1 with Paddy Power making him joint favourite at 2-1.

Darren Haines, spokesman for Paddy Power, said: “There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this one and frankly its left us baffled.

"But no matter what price we cut Redknapp to punters keep backing him - surely they don’t think he’s going to go back to save Portsmouth for a third time?”

And it was the same story with Victor Chandler who were also bowled over with requeststo back the much travelled Londoner.

"It’s been a real plunge," said VC spokesman Neal Wilkins.

"They were taking any price we put up, and we just had to keep cutting his price. On the faceof it, it doesn’t make sense that he would go, but of course we don’t know what is going on behind the scenes."
